Welcome to American Legion Cathay Post No. 384 in San Francisco, CA. We are a member post of the Eighth District Council, Area 2, Department of California. Our missions are to provide support to fellow veterans, first responders, scholarships to youth programs, and help the local community.  We are located in two locations. Our main building is located in the North Beach district of San Francisco and we have an office at the San Francisco War memorial Veterans Building located in the War Memorial Complex at Civic Center across the street from City Hall.

We welcome all veterans. However, only those who have served during times of conflict are eligible to be a member of the American Legion. The American Legion is the largest veterans’ organization in our country with more than 2.4 million members. The Legion is very active in advocating for legislation that benefit our fellow veterans. They keep a watchful eye on how our veterans are being treated as they seek to claim their rightful benefits. Both pre and post 9/11 GI Bills were the results of the efforts by The American Legion. In addition to veteran membership, Cathay Post No. 384 has a small, but very active support group that does not require veteran status in order to join.

We participate in many events throughout the year. Some of the more memorable ones include hosting and serving lunch to 150+ sailors and Marines during Fleet Week, marching in the Italian Heritage Day parade, the Veterans’ Day parade, participating in the Memorial Day Remembrance at the San Francisco National Cemetery at the Presidio, the Four Chaplains Service, USS San Francisco Tribute, and hopefully again in the San Francisco Lunar New Year parade. We also conduct flag folding ceremonies at funeral services if requested. Our member’s service ranges from WWII to Iraq and Afghanistan to everything in between. To see what else our post is involved with, check out our award winning monthly newsletter, Cathay Dispatch. Click on the Cathay Dispatch pdf below for the current issue or check us out on our Facebook page – Cathay Post #384.

Our general monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. at our main building at 1524 Powell Street, followed by a lunch where we share each other’s company and catch each other up on our latest news. Young and old, big and small, Marine or Air Force, come visit our Post and see why for over 80 years Cathay Post No. 384 is the leading post in San Francisco. I promise you will receive a friendly reception.
